This past couple of months has been very heavy on us both financially and emotionally. And sometimes you get caught up not knowing what to do. You either cry and whine or take a step back and breath slowly. Luckily I did the latter, I should say we (me and Yana that is). Maan wasn’t feeling well after our visit to the Pearland Winterfest. She’s been sickly lately. I guess its just a combination of other things, work, stress, and not enough exercise (actually no exercise, sorry mommy but that’s the truth hehehe). Speaking of exercise, I may be overweight (yes I’m no longer obese, I scaled down months ago, woho!) but I can out run Maan and my dad hands down. And my dad used to be runner, ok he smokes a lot so I guess that’s not fair =) Sorry I got side-tracked, where was I again? oh yeah, me and Yana went for a stroll. We just came from the Filipiniana filipino buffet in downtown Houston. Everyone was sick full to the brim.My mom, nanay and Maan felt a little drowsy, so it was just me and Yana who were awake. Yana was lucky, coz on the way back she slept a good 15-20 mins. To be honest, I too was a bit sleepy but if I slept who would look after of our little maldita?! Anyhow, I decided to shrug it off by walking. So off we went. Being a photobug myself, I made sure I brought my Canon 350D with me. I switched lenses and used my all-purpose zoom lense (for the techies reading this it was a Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM). We took the usual jogging path but the sun was too bright. So I decided to go the playground. Yana played for a couple minutes but was bored since there wasn’t any kids around so we headed back home. On the way back, I shot the two photos posted here. Aren’t they stunning? Pwede na ba? The electric poles reminds me of the Philippines, specially in the provinces. When I was young electricity was scarce, a majority of houses relied on kerosene for lighting and fire wood for warmth. The poles reminded me of how things have changed and how other things have remained the same. The canal on the other hand reminds me of the water way near our ancestral home in Pangasinan, at least when it was still free of garbage. Every time it rained heavily, me and a whole bunch of other kids used to bathe on that stream. Those were the good old days. I feel bad that Yana and her generation couldn’t experience such simple pleasures. But that’s the price we pay for leaving our country. Anyhow, I’ve been taking digital pictures since 1997 but only lately have I been able to tell stories using them. Hope you like it like I did. When Yana grows up I’ll teach her to do the same. I really think pictures convey more emotions than words. |
